Cumbria -
A Supportive, Comfortable Base for
Business
Sealy United Kingdom, part of the
Silentnight Group of companies,
has witnessed sustained growth since
the company came to Cumbria in 1974.
A further £1 million has
recently been invested on plant
and building extensions to keep
pace with record demand for their
product 'Sealy Posturepedic', the
world's biggest bed brand. New vehicles
have been added to their impressive
'Quickship' fleet and continued
substantial investment is being
made in IT.
Success in the competitive contract
market, at home and abroad, has
also brought substantial orders
from some of the world's top hotel
chains and beds made in Cumbria
are slept on throughout Europe and
the Middle East.
More than 300 employees now work
at the multi-award winning company
which operates a 170,000 sq. ft.
manufacturing plant in Aspatria,
supplying beds to leading retailers
all over the UK.
Sealy's success in a very competitive
market place emphasises the benefits
of distribution from uncongested
Cumbria. There can be fewer products
more bulky than a bed yet Sealy's
distribution costs, as a percentage
of sales, are the lowest of the
six bed companies in the parent
group.
Managing Director, John Hancock,
is a total convert to the Cumbrian
way of life and its people! Sealy
are very much a people business
and John confidently boasts that
he has a world-beating workforce
and would not have the factory located
anywhere else than his beloved Cumbria.
