Cumbria
- Moulding a Flagship Plant
Pirelli came to Carlisle 30 years ago. Today the tyre
company is regarded as the flagship of their European
operations, being the first UK manufacturer to receive
the Japanese Institute of Plant Maintenance - TPM Award
in 1995.
Excellent labour relations and
a highly praised and prized workforce
have been key to Pirelli's success.
The 900 strong workforce, operates
a 7 day week and has a system
of 'Autonomous Maintenance' which
gives employees ownership of
the machine and workstation.
This has increased job satisfaction
and boosted productivity.
The Pirelli plant turns out
4 million tyres a year and specialises
in the top of the range products.
Carlisle is the European centre
for Pirelli's off-road tyres.
Hardworking, flexible, adaptable
and keen to learn new ways of
working, the Cumbrian people
have helped to shape a secure
future for Pirelli and to keep
it firmly on track.
