Cumbria - Designed for Success

Travelling Light was founded in 1987 by Cumbrians Freddy and Suzie Markham. Based initially at their Morland home, near Penrith, and latterly from offices converted from disused buildings in the centre of the village, they market hot weather travel clothing via a mail order catalogue and nine nationwide shops.

The Markhams discovered early on that the best way to achieve appropriate levels of quality and to manage stock effectively was to design and manufacture clothes locally. The presence of a pool of skilled machinists and modern premises at Workington proved ideal for Travelling Light's needs and today their factory employs 80 people and furnishes the business with two new clothing collections each year.

In 2000, Travelling Light's distribution facilities were upgraded when a new purpose-built warehouse was commissioned from Lowther Estates at their Hackthorpe Hall Business Centre, near Penrith.

Travelling Light is now recognised as a leader in the travel clothing field and is proud to claim "exclusively designed and made in Cumbria" as a tribute to the skills of its workforce.
